Terraria
A 2D sandbox where progression is boss-gated. Mine, craft, and build through pre-Hardmode, flip the world at the Wall of Flesh, then climb the mechanical bosses to the Moon Lord.
Progression at a glance
| # | Boss | When | Unlocks / drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eye of Cthulhu | Pre-Hardmode. Summon with a Suspicious Looking Eye at night, or random night spawn | Demonite/Crimtane ore and evil-boss access. Usually the first boss |
| 2 | Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu | Pre-Hardmode. Corruption worlds fight Eater; Crimson worlds fight Brain | Shadow Scales + Demonite, or Tissue Samples + Crimtane. First real armor tier |
| 3 | Skeletron | Pre-Hardmode. Talk to the Old Man at the Dungeon at night | Opens the Dungeon, unlocks the Clothier NPC |
| 4 | Wall of Flesh | Pre-Hardmode finale. Throw the Guide Voodoo Doll into Underworld lava | Pwnhammer (breaks Altars). Flips the world into Hardmode, permanently |
| 5 | The Twins, The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime | Hardmode. Summon each mechanical boss at night with its crafted item | Hallowed Bars and the three mechanical Souls. All three unlock Plantera and Chlorophyte |
| 6 | Plantera | Hardmode. Break a Plantera Bulb in the Underground Jungle after all 3 mechs | Temple Key, stronger Dungeon loot, halves biome spread |
| 7 | Golem | Hardmode. Lihzahrd Power Cell at the Lihzahrd Altar (needs the Temple Key) | Picksaw and Golem loot. Gates the Lunatic Cultist |
| 8 | Lunatic Cultist | Hardmode. Kill the 4 cultists at the Dungeon entrance (spawn after Golem) | Begins the Lunar Events (the four Celestial Pillars) |
| 9 | Celestial Pillars | Hardmode. Solar, Nebula, Vortex, and Stardust Pillars spawn after the Cultist | Lunar Fragments for the four endgame armor sets. All four down summon the Moon Lord |
| 10 | Moon Lord | Endgame. All four Pillars defeated, or use a Celestial Sigil | Final boss. Luminite ore and most endgame weapons |
Current version is 1.4.5.x "Bigger and Boulder" on Desktop (released January 27, 2026; latest patch 1.4.5.6), on the 1.4 "Journey's End" foundation.
Top tips
- Build simple valid houses early so the Merchant, Nurse, and Demolitionist move in. NPCs are core to progression.
- Explore caverns for Life Crystals (up to 400 HP) before fighting the Eye of Cthulhu. Do not go in at 100 HP.
- Pick one class and commit. Armor and accessories only boost one damage type, so spreading gear leaves you weak.
- Do not skip Hellstone. Molten armor and the Night's Edge / Phoenix Blaster tier make the Wall of Flesh far easier.
- Prepare an arena before each boss: flat platforms, Campfires, Heart Lanterns, and Honey.
- The Hardmode flip is permanent. Killing the Wall of Flesh spawns spreading Hallow and evil biomes and spikes difficulty.
- Contain biome spread. Dig trenches or use the Clentaminator to protect your Jungle and base. Spread halves after Plantera.
- Reforge gear at the Goblin Tinkerer. Warding (defense) and Menacing/Lucky (damage/crit) are large, cheap-if-happy power gains.
- Most Hardmode bosses fly. Wings, a mount, and boots matter as much as your weapon.
- Standing near the Nurse to buy full heals mid-fight is a legitimate strategy for tough bosses.
