How the skill tree works
The Update 8 tree is a four-color ring of 222 nodes across 12 archetypes. The red anchor is Warrior (melee); nearby wedges hold Tank and Soldier hybrids.
- You are not locked to one archetype. Freely mix nodes, for example a Warrior who carries a shield.
- Points are finite (guides cite a cap in the low-to-mid 180s, with 184 cited by some), so every build is about which nodes to skip.
- The tree resets and refunds all points on first load into Update 8, and you can respec freely after, so experiment.
Do this in order
- Rescue the Blacksmith early for melee gear and smelting.
- Anchor into the red Warrior nodes; pick up on-hit healing and heavy-attack passives.
- Favor two-handed weapons to lean on the heavy-attack burst window.
- Refine copper, then bronze, then iron as you move through the early and mid regions for better weapons and armor.
- Keep three food buffs up (damage and stamina buffs suit melee) and build for Comfort so the Rested buff holds.
Watch out for
- Do not overspend stamina. Being caught mid-dodge with an empty bar is how basic enemies punish you.
- Giants are usually safest fought from behind. Position rather than trade blows.
- Magic-resistant Veilwater content favors a Berserker-style melee approach; carry the right food buffs for it.
