The act order

StageRegion themeMilestone
Act 1Coastal forest and town, drowned and undeadEnds at a major act boss
Act 2Vastiri desert and mining regionsTrial of the Sekhemas unlocks your Ascendancy
Act 3Jungle and wetlandsEnds at Doryani, Royal Thaumaturge; Trial of Chaos available
InterludesBridge content after the actsReplaced the old second run on Cruel difficulty
Ziggurat RefugeEndgame hub with the Map DeviceUnlocks after finishing the campaign
Atlas of WorldsMap based endgameWaystones open Maps; Atlas passives and pinnacle bosses live here

Older overview sources still say “complete the campaign through Cruel difficulty.” That reflects the old structure and is outdated. The current build is described as 4 acts followed by 3 interludes.

Ascendancy Trials (do these on time)

TrialWhereReward
Trial of the SekhemasAct 2, entered with a Djinn BaryaAscendancy plus points 1 and 2
Trial of ChaosAct 3Points 3 and 4
Higher TrialsEndgamePoints 5, 6, 7, and 8

The Trial of the Sekhemas uses a resource called Honour. You lose Honour when hit and the run ends if it hits 0, so avoiding damage matters. Exact level gates may be outdated.

The campaign-to-Atlas jump

  1. Finish the acts and interludes.
  2. Arrive at the Ziggurat Refuge, which holds the Map Device.
  3. Insert a Waystone into the Map Device to open a Map, a randomized zone with its own monsters, modifiers, and often a boss.
  4. Waystones come in 15 tiers that set Map level and difficulty. May be outdated.
  5. Spend Atlas passive points on the separate Atlas passive tree as you progress.
  6. Clear Precursor Towers to reveal more Atlas and insert Precursor Tablets that buff nearby Maps.

Do this in order

  1. Level through Act 1 and get your first skill and support gems working.
  2. In Act 2, run the Trial of the Sekhemas to unlock your Ascendancy.
  3. In Act 3, run the Trial of Chaos for two more Ascendancy points; beat Doryani.
  4. Play the interludes to bridge into the endgame.
  5. Reach the Ziggurat Refuge and open your first Map with a Waystone.
  6. Push the Atlas: passive points, Precursor Towers, and pinnacle bosses.
