Poison Build (Dionysus)
Stack Dionysus Hangover so poison-like damage over time melts tough enemies and bosses while you stay mobile.
At a glance
| Damage source | Hangover, Dionysus’s stacking poison-like damage over time. |
| Comes online | Once you have a Dionysus boon that applies Hangover and a way to keep applying it. |
| Core boon | A Dionysus boon that adds Hangover to your Attack, Special, or Cast. |
| Good weapons | Weapons that apply on many fast hits, like the Twin Fists and Adamant Rail. |
Hangover is stacking damage over time: it ticks every half second and stacks up to a base cap of five. You apply it, the stacks tick, and tough enemies and bosses melt while you keep your distance. The build wants the cap topped up and bigger ticks.
Gods and boons to prioritize
| Priority | God | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dionysus | Apply Hangover through your main action, then take his boons that raise its damage and stack cap. The core. |
| 2 | Athena | Deflect for survival while the stacks tick. A standard safety pick. |
| 3 | Hermes | Speed to keep re-applying Hangover and to dodge while it works. |
Pom your Hangover boon. More stacks and higher damage per stack is the whole plan.
Payoff to aim for
Dionysus has Hangover Duos with other gods and a Legendary for committing to him. Exact Duo and Legendary names are flagged to verify, so aim for the archetype: a Duo that raises Hangover’s stack cap or adds a second damage-over-time source, or Dionysus’s Legendary once you hold enough of his boons. Take it when your gods line up.
Keepsake
- Dionysus’s keepsake makes his boons appear early so you find a Hangover boon fast.
- Swap to Eurydice’s Evergreen Acorn or a defensive keepsake at a region transition for boss fights.
Do this in order
- Equip Dionysus’s keepsake to find a Hangover boon early.
- Apply Hangover through the action that lets you keep stacks on the target.
- Take Athena Deflect for defense while stacks tick.
- Pom your Hangover boon to raise stack damage.
- Use Hermes speed to re-apply and to stay mobile.
- If a Hangover Duo or the Dionysus Legendary is offered and your gods line up, take it.
Watch out for
- Hangover is damage over time, so it is slow against single weak enemies you could just hit. It shines on tough foes and bosses.
- Stacks wear off after a few seconds. Keep applying rather than waiting for one big hit.
- Do not split into a second damage source. Pom Hangover instead.
- Skipping defense. Damage over time does not protect you while it works.
